IowaWORKS to Host Apprenticeship Open House on November 16th

IowaWORKS, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor announced that it will host an Apprenticeship Open House event on November 16th from 1-3pm at Northwest Iowa Community

College in Sheldon, as part of the second annual National Apprenticeship Week.

 As part of National Apprenticeship Week, this event will feature a presentation from Richard Madden, Apprenticeship and Training Representative, from U.S. Department of Labor. A few words from Christine Therkildgen, from Midwest Mechanical a successful registered apprenticeship sponsor. 

Also, Frank DeMilia, Director of Workforce at NCC, will be talking about how the community college can partner with your business for the classroom component of the Apprenticeship Program. 

The event is free and open to the public and business community.

 Apprenticeship is an “earn and learn” training model that combines work-based learning with related classroom instruction using the highest industry standards. According to Richard Madden, companies that offer apprenticeship programs can diversify their workforce, improve productivity and profitability, standardize training, reduce turnover, and receive tax credits and more.

 
“While 75 years ago, the apprenticeship system began in construction and other skilled trades, today there are apprenticeships in more than 1,000 occupations, including careers in healthcare, IT, energy and more,” said Richard Madden. “The goal of the National Apprenticeship Week and open house events like this one is to educate businesses and leaders about the importance of Apprenticeship programs. These programs can lead to great jobs that also help positively impact our economy. ”
