O’Brien County Tourism to Host Audience & Community Engagement Workshop February 27

Primghar, Iowa, February 14, 2017 – O’Brien County Tourism will host the third workshop in a series of workshops funded by a grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) FY2017 Iowa Tourism Grant cycle. This workshop will be facilitated by the Iowa Museum Association and is scheduled for February 27th from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Holiday Inn Express in Sheldon.

Organizations and individuals who will find this workshop especially helpful will be museum staff and board members, librarians and their board members, historical societies, and custodians of any historical collection.

This hands-on workshop will have participants develop an institutional inventory of audience experiences and will pinpoint areas for development that both align with their mission and address the unmet needs in their community. Then, after contemplating case studies that illustrate successful collaborations, participants will work in teams to apply best practices in the collaborative process. Facilitated discussions will cover topics that include distinguishing specific visitor types, identifying barriers to engagement, and establishing approaches to increase community access.

Kiana Johnson, Director of O’Brien County Economic Development Corporation, stated this workshop series is being offered free of charge and the final two workshops will cover Interpretation and Stewardship of Collections. Those who attend will be able to utilize the insights and resources gained in these workshops to help their organizations.

Registration for this event is required and the deadline to register is noon on February 24th. For additional information or to register, please contact Kiana Johnson, O’Brien County Economic Development at 712.957.1313 or e-mail ocedc@tcaexpress.net.
